Café Yeonnam-dong 239-20 is an artistic eatery in Seoul, South Korea, that quickly became an online hit thanks to its innovative and cute decor. The small yet cozy café looks like it’s straight out of a cartoon immersing patrons into a bizarre two-dimensional world.
The design of Café YND239-20 was inspired by the 2016 South Korean television series, “W – Two Worlds,” starring Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo, in which the characters clash between the real world and a fantasy world inside a webtoon. Marketing Manager JS Lee told CNN Travel that Café YND239-20 took its name from its Seoul address.
The South Korean coffee shop, which is located in the popular Yeonman-dong district in Seoul, has become a must-visit for both decor-loving locals and Instagrammers since its opening in July 2017. From the moment customers cross the café’s doorstep, they are greeted with a striped black-and-white cartoonish aesthetic imbued on its walls, floors, and furniture, as well as on its dishes, mugs, and cutlery.

Owner Eunjin Lee told MailOnline Travel: “We created the café because there was nothing like it in Korea or even the world. We tried to make a very unique concept. That is why we chose this style.”
