Directed by Spanish filmmaker Amanda Lago, “Fucking Down” is the latest music video from the acclaimed musician Fatal Tiger. Unique and gripping in more ways than one, the video invites several different interpretations, all of which, however, point to the same ultimate issue – “the struggle we face in accepting ourselves by portraying and engaging with the most extreme aspects of our personality.”
“Fucking Down” is filmed in a dark hotel room. The Fatal Tiger singer is surrounded by the various emotions related to the human psyche. Be it love, hate, anger, wickedness, the protagonist finds herself caught at the mercy of these emotions. The way she reacts each time differently to different emotions leads to the revelation of an entirely new part of her personality.
All the other women present in the video are different parts of the woman’s soul throughout various ages of her life. It almost feels like parts of her subconscious have taken a flesh-and-blood form, with all her nightmares and insecurities coming alive and haunting her. This likely explains why the women look alike – while one part of her is trying to save her, the other is attempting to destroy her. There are several battles she’s fighting with herself, and how she resists the negativity and rises above it all to save herself is the real essence of the story told in the video.
Coming to terms with one’s sexuality is another theme explored in this production. The way we actually are and the way we present ourselves to others are two contrasting personalities.
“Fucking Down” has an eerie, almost horror-like ambiance and perfectly depicts the struggles of a modern-day upbringing. Commenting on the music video, Amanda Lago states: “I wanted to recreate a chaotic environment in which emotions and feelings are presented through an almost delirious dance. We live in an era in which we obsess over how others perceive us. This has led us to meticulously curate the way we present ourselves to the world, setting highly unrealistic expectations while still trying to come across as authentic. ‘Fucking Down’ is an interpretation of how this dynamic affects us, expressed through a visual orgy of senses in what becomes an ongoing and vicious journey in understanding and accepting ourselves.”
“Fucking Down” is the second production for which Amanda Logo and Fatal Tiger have come together. The acting is stellar, the direction is commendable, and the cinematography is stunning. The song has been choreographed to perfection, with every detail reflecting a milieu of different emotions.
