The decorated and acclaimed cinematographer, theatrical director, producer, and scriptwriter behind the movies “The Favourite,” “The Lobster,” and “Dogtooth,” Yorgos Lanthimos, can now add Vogue Greece cover shoot photographer to his impressive resume.
Yorgos Lanthimos has produced a 40-page fashion story for the Greek edition of Vogue magazine. “ΘΑΛΑΣΣΑ” – Greek for “SEA” – is a fashion narrative set against the backdrop of summertime in Athens, featuring French model and actress, Aymeline Valade, and industry up-and-comer, Stella Lucia. The magazine was first released on June 30, 2019 with a choice of two collectible covers – one featuring Valade, and the other featuring Lucia.
This is the continuation of Yorgos Lanthimos’ flirtation with fashion. In June 2019, the Oscar-nominated Greek director collaborated with Gucci’s Alessandro Michele to create a vision for the Gucci Menswear Cruise 2020 Collection lookbook. Set in the Galleria Della Leda in Villa Albani Torlonia, Lanthimos worked with Michele to create a hedonistic dreamscape that blends Greek and Roman mythology within the context of contemporary fashion.
Featuring Lanthimos’ distinctive aesthetic, pictures from the shoot will form the basis of a Gucci art book to be released in November 2019. Distributed by the London-based IDEA Books, the lookbook will be available for purchase at Villa Albani Torlonia in Rome, Gucci Garden in Florence, and the Gucci Wooster Bookstore in New York City.
Proceeds from the project will be donated to the restoration of the historic Leda Gallery of Villa Albani Torlonia.
