The “MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM: teamLab Borderless” is a brand new 100,000 square meter gallery space that will open its doors to the public for the first time on Thursday, June 21st, 2018, in Odaiba, Tokyo, featuring approximately 50 impressive digital artworks. The experimental Japanese art collective “teamLab” in cooperation with the Tokyo-based urban developer “Mori Building” will offer visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the thrill of borderless art.
“TeamLab” is a collective of artists that was founded in 2011 including several talented architects, computer animators, designers, engineers, mathematicians, and programmers. Their latest project is this “totally new kind of interactive digital art museum the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.”
“Every day will be a different experience,” teamLab’s communications director Takashi Kudo told CNN in a recent interview. “There are different monitors and projectors (and) people can become part of the work. It’s borderless and transcends boundaries. When you create something, there are already boundaries. If you make it on canvas, there are boundaries; if you make a sculpture, you can’t change it. But for digital (art), you can always change, because the digital world doesn’t really exist. We want to really bring people inside our artworks.”
According to their official press release, the “ultra-technologists” of “teamLab” hope that their project “will inspire people to create enlightened new values and innovative new social frameworks.” Their aim to “create a unique destination that enhances the magnetic power of Tokyo toward 2020 and beyond,” is also clearly expressed.
