For those curious to see how some of the world’s greatest architectural masterpieces, such as the Parthenon in Greece, the Pyramid of the Sun in Mexico, and the Luxor Temple in Egypt, looked like when they were newly built, Expedia has something new to offer.
NeoMam Studios in collaboration with This Is Render created a series of awesome GIFs to give serious history buffs a unique opportunity to travel back in time and explore the original forms of seven dazzling ancient monuments.
Watch the enduring symbol of Western Civilization in Greece, Parthenon, getting restored in seconds. Dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, the Parthenon is an impressive temple on the Acropolis hill in Athens. It was created in the mid-5th century BCE when the Athenian Empire was at the zenith of its power.
The project also includes one of the largest buildings in Mesoamerica, which is no other than the Pyramid of the Sun. This massive building, located in Teotihuacán and constructed between the 1st and 7th centuries CE, is one of the most important ancient monuments in Mexico. People can also use their computer screen to examine the fascinating archaeological site of Largo di Torre Argentina in Italy, excavated as part of Mussolini’s rebuilding efforts in the 1920’s.
The team created one more GIF for Italy and the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, also known as the Temple of Jupiter Capitolinus. This monument, located on the Capitoline Hill and dedicated to the god of the thunder and sky Jupiter, was the most significant temple in Ancient Rome.
Other ancient sites of great significance that inspired the team was the second tallest Mayan pyramid in the world, the Nohoch Mul Pyramid at the archaeological site of Cobá in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and the Luxor Temple on the east bank of the Nile River in Egypt. Milecastle 39 in England, occupied until the late 4th century CE, finally completes the list.
